Islands, Stars and Streams

As Islanders, campers spend three days exploring the picturesque Les Cheneaux Islands on the northern shore of Lake Huron by kayak. This program offers older girls the opportunity to expand their wilderness camping skills, while still getting to spend much of their two-weeks at camp participating in fun on-site activities and challenges. Before embarking on their trip, campers will learn basic paddling skills and water safety on Lake Arbutus. The adventure begins in Cedarville, northeast of St. Ignace in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where the group will meet their kayak guides. These guides work through local outfitter Woods and Water Ecotours, the same company camp has worked with for over 10 years. Before venturing out onto Lake Huron, the kayak guides train campers on water safety and paddling techniques. Campers will kayak around the beautiful and numerous Les Cheneaux Islands and basecamp at the Government Island Campground located centrally within the chain of islands. After their journey, the girls will head home to spend their last few days at camp participating in many on-site activities such as the climbing tower, high ropes course, arts & crafts, and waterfront activities.

The Les Cheneaux Islands are located on the north shore of Lake Huron, northeast of St. Ignace in the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan. For more information about the location of the trip, check out the Les Cheneaux Islands website.
