As two-week Bushwhackers, campers spend much of their time at camp participating in fun activities and learning new skills. After a few days of swimming, archery, and other fun games, the Bushwhackers will venture out on a three day canoeing trip down the Au Sable River. Campers put the canoeing skills they learned on Arbutus Lake to the test as they journey through the beautiful wooded area surrounding the Au Sable River.
The Bushwhackers explore a section of the AuSable River that runs through the beautiful Huron National Forest, located east of camp. The girls paddle downstream about 40 miles over the course of three days, staying at State Forest Campground sites along the way.
As four-week Bushwhackers, campers head to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for a seven day backpacking trip at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The hiking trail follows sandstone ledges overlooking Lake Superior, providing stunning views. Campers are introduced to new backcountry skills, such as cooking dehydrated food and filtering their own water. This trip is a rewarding adventure as campers have the opportunity to overcome personal boundaries and learn how to work together. The skills they learn on their trip are brought back to camp where they get to spend their last two weeks participating in a variety of activities, such as arts & crafts, archery, climbing tower, ropes course, and more with their cabin group.
Picture Rocks National Lakeshore is located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, north of camp. The park is renowned for its stunning beauty and untouched wilderness areas. For more information about the location of this trip, check out the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore website.
