As Extendos, campers spend three weeks exploring southeast Alaska as they sea kayak, backpack, and whitewater raft around the last frontier. All adventures are based out of Haines, Alaska and the group is accompanied by trained guides working at the Alaska Mountain Guides and Climbing School. Upon arrival in Alaska, the campers will begin preparing for the sea kayaking portion of their trip by learning water safety and paddling techniques. The six day paddle along the Pacific coastline includes sightings of remarkable wildlife, including sea lions, seals, bald eagles, and humpback whales. After kayaking through beautiful Alaskan waterways, campers will enjoy a layover day before catching the ferry to Skagway where they will begin hiking the 33 mile Chilkoot trail. This historic trail, once used during the gold rush, traverses mountain peaks and scenic woodlands. A highlight of this backpacking adventure is a summit of Chilkoot Pass where the group will cross the border into Canada. After the hiking portion of the trip, campers will enjoy a culminating Alaskan experience ice climbing and exploring the ice formations on Flower Mountain with crampons and ice axes. In addition, the group will spend four to five hours white water rafting on the Tatshenshini and Blanchard Rivers, and a half day float rafting the Bald Eagle Reserve. Experienced guides from the Alaska Mountain Guides and Climbing School will accompany the Arbutus Hayo-Went-Ha group during all hiking, rafting, glacier climbing, and kayaking portions of this incredible twenty-one day Alaskan experience.
The group will fly out together to Juneau, Alaska where they will catch a ferry north to Haines. The Alaska Mountain Guides and Climbing School will transport the group to their headquarters, where they will basecamp between adventures during their stay in Alaska.
The extended trip costs $5,300. This includes everything EXCEPT AIRFARE and personal spending. The estimated flight cost is between $900 - $1,000, but will vary according to airline, group rate options, and availability.
