Safety is our number one priority at the Hayo-Went-Ha Camps. The entire staff go through an extensive two week training prior to the beginning of camp. During that time they learn first aid, accident prevention, and proper techniques regarding the skills programs. The staff receive training to help them understand children and their development as well as daily health needs.
A well equipped health center is maintained at camp, staffed by certified Health Officers. A Health Officer is on duty at all times operating under "standing orders" from our camp physicians. The camps have medical doctors on call at all times and we are only a short distance from local hospitals. If an injury occurs, regardless of severity, we require that it be reported to the Camp Health Officer.
At check-in, campers and parents meet the Camp Health Officer to review the campers health history and turn in any medications. All campers are required to have had a physical within 24 months of attending camp to ensure that your child is able to pariticpate in their camp program.
Staff members inspect their campers daily for cleanliness and any minor injuries. The constant supervision by mature counselors, all whom are trained in CPR and First-aid, make it easy for parents not to worry about the welfare of their children while at camp.
Our concern does not stop at the boundries of the camp. When the campers travel outside of the camp for their trips, the groups are equiped with first aid kits, emergency procedures and emergency contacts. Trip leaders have received training in wilderness first aid techniques.
