Finished 10th & 11th grade / 4 week session only
The trip includes a combination of sea kayaking and hiking based out of Juneau, Alaska using the Eagle Valley Center as our base camp and guide service. Upon arriving the group will begin a kayaking training period at the center before the group begins a ten day sea kayaking adventure in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will see sea lions, seals, bald eagles and humpback whales and untouched glaciers plus view first hand the beauty of the islands and mainland Alaska.
After a layover day you will then catch a ferry to Skagway and begin hiking the Chilkoot Trail following the footsteps of the stampeders along the 33-mile trail into Canada. On this leg, you will learn some of the history and take in the beautiful sites. You will then take the train from Bennett back to the ferry terminal for your trip back to Juneau.
In addition we are offering a one day excursion with a two hour hike to the face of the Mendenhall Glacier and about a two hour trek on the glacier with crampons and ice axes. An experienced Eagle Valley Center guide will accompany the AHWH group during these hiking and kayaking portions of the trip.
